36x36” on 1.5” gallery wrapped stitched canvas.
I found myself reflecting on some unfinished paintings in my studio and wondering how to move them forward. Rather than stressing over the unresolved areas, I decided to take the leap and cut out the parts I really liked. Using my vintage Singer sewing machine, I sewed these pieces together, resulting in a new collection of "Stitches,". These paintings combine raw and gessoed canvas, stitched together to form eclectic, unexpected abstract compositions.
Through this process, I am exploring the theme of overcoming fears and letting go, as I take the risk of cutting up completed works and rearranging them in unusual combinations. Unexpected situations often arise when we let go and embrace change.
The mixed media used in this paintings includes Neopastels, oil bars, graphite, and acrylic paint in a palette of Paris Green, Fern Green, Yellow Ochre, Viridian, and Phthalo Turquoise, creating a whimsical and neutral aesthetic that will bring delight to any space. When you look at these paintings, I hope that you may find yourself feeling uplifted and inspired to embrace your own sense of creativity and fearlessness.
